Air Compressor Service in Tampa, FL

Clean, dry, reliable air keeps your booth and tools running. We service and repair shop compressors, dryers, and air lines across Tampa Bay, where moisture control comes first.

What we do

Compressor service for Tampa shops.

In Florida, humidity is the enemy of a clean finish, and it starts in your air lines. Your compressor feeds the spray gun, the air tools, and on many booths the pneumatic dampers and controls. We service compressors, dryers, separators, and drains across Tampa Bay to keep moisture out of your booth and off your coats.

Spray Booth Services is a division of John Baker Sales, in business since 2003, and paint booths and the compressors that feed them are all we work on. Pair compressor service with booth maintenance for a finish that stays clean.

What we handle

Drains & condensate

Tank drains and automatic drains checked so water leaves the system instead of riding into the lines.

Dryers

Dryer operation checked, because a dryer that isn't drying passes water straight to the booth.

Filters & separators

Intake, particulate, coalescing, and separator elements inspected and replaced on schedule.

Belts & drives

Belt tension, wear, and pulley alignment checked before a slipping belt costs you pressure.

Oil & leaks

Oil level and condition checked on lubricated units, plus a leak check on fittings, hoses, and quick-connects.

Booth + air together

One partner for the booth and the air that feeds it. See Tampa booth services.

What Gulf Coast humidity does to shop air

Tampa Bay shops fight more condensate than almost anywhere:

  • Water year-round. Warm, humid intake air carries a lot of moisture, and compressing it puts that water in the tank and lines. Assume you need more drying capacity than a dry-climate shop.
  • Drains work overtime. Tanks and drip legs fill faster, so a stuck automatic drain or a skipped manual drain shows up quickly as fisheyes and blush.
  • Rust and corrosion. Standing water corrodes tanks and piping from the inside, and humid or salty air is hard on exposed fittings and motors.
  • Hot equipment rooms. Heat plus humidity makes compressors run hotter and dryers work harder, especially in summer.

Read what heat and humidity do to your booth and water in your air lines.

What a compressor service visit covers

A typical visit works through the air system from the compressor to the gun:

  • Tank drains and automatic drains tested, and condensate checked for oil or rust.
  • Dryer operation checked, and filter and separator elements inspected or replaced.
  • Intake filter, belts, and pulleys checked for wear, tension, and alignment.
  • Oil level and condition checked on oil-lubricated units, per the manufacturer's interval.
  • Leaks found at fittings, hoses, regulators, and quick-connects.
  • Moisture and pressure checked at the booth, where it matters most.

Pressure switches, safety valves, electrical components, and anything on the tank itself are work for a qualified technician. More on what's involved on our compressor maintenance page.

What your crew can do between visits

  • Drain the tank and drip legs as your compressor manual directs, daily in most shops, unless you have working automatic drains.
  • Check filter bowls and the gun-side trap for water, and change disposable traps on schedule.
  • Listen for leaks at the end of the day when the shop is quiet.
  • Note how long the compressor runs versus rests. A unit that never shuts off is telling you something.
  • Keep the compressor area clear and ventilated so it can shed heat.

Leave electrical work, pressure switch adjustments, safety valves, and any repair to the tank or pressure piping to a qualified technician.

Questions & answers

Tampa compressor service questions

Do you service compressors across Tampa Bay?

Yes. We provide on-site service across Tampa Bay and the surrounding area. Not sure if you're in range? Call and ask. See Tampa service details.

How do you keep Florida humidity out of the finish?

Moisture control starts at the compressor: working drains, a dryer sized for the load, and coalescing and point-of-use filters that are changed on schedule. We check each stage and test for water at the booth.

Why does my tank drain so much water?

In a humid climate that's normal, and it's why drains matter. If the drain is stuck, or water is reaching the gun anyway, the dryer or filters likely need attention. Have a qualified technician look at anything involving the tank itself.

What do you check on a compressor service visit?

Drains and dryers, intake and separator filters, belts and pulleys, oil level and condition, leaks, and moisture and pressure at the point of use. We explain what we found and what can wait before any work is done.

How often should a shop compressor be serviced?

Follow the manufacturer's intervals for oil, filters, and separators, and base them on run hours rather than the calendar. A compressor that runs most of the day needs service sooner. See compressor maintenance for body shops.

Which compressors do you service?

Reciprocating and rotary screw compressors from most major brands, including Mattei, plus the dryers, separators, and drains that go with them.

How quickly do you respond?

We respond to every request within one business day. If the air is down, tell us when you call so we can plan the visit around it.
