Common Paint Booth Problems by Brand (Garmat, GFS, Accudraft)
Share
Every paint booth heats, moves air, and filters overspray the same way in principle. But the components that do that work vary a lot from one manufacturer to the next, and so do the parts that tend to wear out first. Knowing your brand doesn't just help you order the right filter — it shapes how a technician diagnoses a problem and how quickly your booth gets back into production.
Why brand matters for parts and diagnostics
Two booths can throw the same symptom for completely different reasons. A booth that stops heating might have a bad flame sensor on one control platform and a tripped high-limit on another. A tech who knows the brand skips the guesswork because they already know how that maker wires its controls, sequences its burner, and routes its airflow. Brand also drives parts: blower wheels, door gaskets, control boards, and AMU components are rarely interchangeable across manufacturers.
Common control and AMU themes across brands
Most modern booths share the same building blocks, and most service calls trace back to a handful of them regardless of the badge on the door:
- Control faults: relays, contactors, sensors, and boards that drift out of spec or fail.
- AMU and heat issues: burners that won't ignite, temperature that won't hold, or a modulating damper that sticks.
- Airflow and pressure: loaded filters, worn drive belts, and pressure switches that lock the system out.
- Doors and seals: gaskets that harden and leak, hinges that sag, and interlocks that fault.
Brand-typical wear points
These are general patterns a tech watches for, not knocks against any manufacturer. Garmat: solid heated downdraft designs; techs commonly check AMU burner components, control relays, and door seals on higher-hour units. GFS: widely deployed with robust controls; typical attention points are pressure switches, sensors, and drive components as hours add up. Accudraft: feature-rich control packages mean diagnostics often start at the board, sensors, and burner sequence. Binks: long-installed base; older units frequently need control, motor, and airflow components refreshed.
Parts availability by brand
Some components are proprietary and best sourced through the manufacturer or a specialist. Others — especially consumables like intake and exhaust filters — are standardized by size and easy to keep on the shelf. A good service partner tells you which of your parts are brand-specific and which you can stock generically.
Why brand experience speeds the repair
When a tech has worked on your make before, the diagnosis is faster because they know the failure patterns, the fix is right the first time because they bring the correct parts, and the callback risk drops because they understand how that brand's systems interact. That's the difference between a booth down for an afternoon and a booth down for a week.
