Ignition, lockouts, and flame loss
Hard starts, repeated lockouts, and flame dropout mid-bake are the most common heat complaints on any booth. The causes are unglamorous: fouled flame sensors, electrodes out of position, gas pressure that is not right at the train, or an airflow proving device not seeing the flow it expects because something upstream is restricted. On many Nova Verta installations the burner is a separate manufacturer's assembly, and direct versus indirect fired changes the sequence entirely. Do not run a generic procedure — including this one — on a live gas train.
Slow heat rise and temperature swing
If the booth lights reliably but climbs slower than it used to, look at heat transfer and airflow before the burner. Loaded intake filters, a slipping supply fan belt, a dirty exchanger surface, or a recirculation damper that never reaches its bake position all present as sluggish heat. Temperature that hunts instead of holding points at sensor placement or control tuning.
Air movement, filters, and balance
Downdraft, semi-downdraft, or side-draft — the specifics differ by configuration. The failure list does not.
- Filter loading. Intake and exhaust filters load at different rates, and running either past useful life shifts the pressure balance. Sizes on European-built booths are not always what a domestic supplier stocks.
- Manometer neglect. A gauge that is plugged, out of calibration, or never read throws away your cheapest early-warning signal.
- Belts, bearings, and motors. A stretched belt or worn sheave quietly costs fan RPM and airflow. New bearing noise is a warning shot; a motor running hot or tripping on start points at load or alignment.
- Dampers and actuators. Worn linkage, a failing actuator, or a binding shaft wrecks both pressure balance and gas efficiency. Damper style varies.
- Ductwork and stacks. Overspray buildup, loose joints, or a damaged stack cap changes exhaust performance in ways that look like a fan problem.

Lighting faults and color-match comebacks
How booth lighting fails
Lighting is the fault category shops ignore longest, because it degrades gradually and nothing ever stops working. Tubes lose output and shift color over their life. Lenses yellow and haze from heat and solvent exposure. Ballasts fail one fixture at a time, usually with a flicker-and-hum stage first. Lens gaskets harden and shrink — both a light problem and a contamination path into the cabin.
The cost shows up as color-match comebacks. A painter who cannot judge metallic orientation and tone under the light he has is matching by faith — and that never appears on a checklist.
Before you buy replacement fixtures
Any replacement fixture must be appropriate for the booth's area classification. That is not a detail to eyeball or hand to an electrician who has never worked in a spray environment — have a technician verify the required rating before anything is ordered. Fixture type, mounting, and wiring also vary by vintage on European-built booths, so a retrofit that fit the booth down the street may not fit yours.

Doors, seals, interlocks, and controls
The cabin is only as clean as its envelope. Worn seals, doors sagged out of square, failed latches, and gaps at panel joints admit unfiltered shop air, usually at floor level where the dirt lives.
Controls vary enough across Nova Verta generations that we will not name panel screens or codes here; yours may look nothing like the one across town. The pattern is consistent: sensors drift, timers stop matching the display, contactors wear, and interlocks get bypassed by somebody working through a fault.
